Become a Master Gardener

 

2019 Master Gardener Training

 

To become a Certified Master Gardener, applicants must complete 60 hours of training and 60 hours of volunteer time as a Community Educator.

• Occasional Saturday field trips
• Scholarships available based on need
• Professional Horticulture option available
   (Coursework without volunteer commitment)

WSU Whatcom County Extension Master Gardener training is for people interested in gardening and their community.

Volunteer Requirement Option

The timeline for completing your volunteer hours has been extended to accommodate new trainees.

Course: February - April
Volunteer Internship: May - September*
* Extended option offered. One additional year, if needed.

 

Topics include:  
      • Botany • Insects
      • Soils • Pesticide Safety
      • Garden Management • Landscape Ornamentals
      • Weed Control • Pruning
      • Plant Pathology • Sustainable Practices
      • Vegetable and Fruit Crops • and more!

 

Space is limited to 25 people.  Training tuition includes materials and 12 weeks of classroom lectures, labs, and field days.

The course has online components of chapter readings and quizzes.  On-site weekly classroom lectures and labs are led by local and state experts. Quizzes and participation are mandatory.  All trainees will become certified after passing the final exam and satisfying the volunteer education requirements.
