Parenting and Family Education

Parenting is an action taken by parents and other caring adults who support children and youth. Our mission is to support parents and caregivers in being as effective as they can in six key parenting practices:

- Self-Care
- Understanding Child and Adolescent Development
- Guidance
- Nurturing
- Motivating
- Advocacy

These practices are defined by the National Extension Parenting Education Model.  Our local programs focus on some but not all of these practices.  We provide web based resources for others.  We also provide resources for parenting and family educators to support them in assisting families.

Our extension model for family education is primarily an interactive model.  We provide programs and resources for families to do as unit.  Some are formal as in our Strengthening Families Program and the Eat Together, Eat Better Family Modules.  Others are web based.

Our educational materials and programs are science based and focus on the strengths of the individual or family unit.  We do not provide therapeutic interventions nor do we do case work or social services.
