YOUTH GARDENING PROGRAMS - SUMMER 2012

The program will be open to youth with a special focus on classes and events for children
ages 4-8. The program will consist of both fee-based classes and free events. Adults are
asked to accompany children thereby promoting an intergenerational gardening connection.

All lessons will be participatory in nature with an emphasis on gardening practices that are
both research-based and earth-friendly.


        FEE-BASED PROGRAM

Veggie Patrol

With the help of Master Gardeners, children and adults will meet
Saturdays at 10:30-11:30am (Apr. 14 - Sept. 29)
to plant, maintain, and harvest vegetables in the Children’s Story Garden.

The fee includes 22 lessons, one hour each, on topics such as:

• Composting and Making Worm Bins*
•Miniature Gardens*
• Scarecrow Workshop*
• Bug Buddies
• Bees and their Business

• Visit the Food Bank**

*Project can be taken home!
** All produce from the garden is donated to food bank

$40/1 adult, 1child
or
$50/1 adult, more than 1 child

Saturday, May 12 • 9am - 2pm

• Once Upon a Time in the Garden
Dates are TBD
Stories for the whole family to be followed by milk
and cookies. Bring your own chairs or blankets.

• Pumpkin Day
Saturday, October 6 • 9am - Noon
Pick out a pumpkin and tour the Children’s Story Garden.

 

 

        WEDNESDAY MORNING VISITS

Special arrangements can be made for groups such
as schools, 4-H groups, and home schoolers.

The 2009 training will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays in Bellingham with field trips throughout Whatcom County.
