Drew
Betz is a Faculty Member for Washington State University Cooperative
Extension in Whatcom County. She works with parents, parent educators,
and family support professionals. Her primary program efforts
are Family Night Out Programs for families with elementary school
aged and adolescent youth, Strengthening Families Program for
Parents and Youth 10-14 Years, and beginning a Parent Education
Network in Whatcom County. She conducts professional development
for professionals and volunteers who provide parent and family
education. She recently co-authored Family Night Out! A Manual
for using 4-H Portable Challenge with Families and produced a
video, Family Night Out!: both are available from WSU Publications.
Some topics of special interest are alternatives to corporal
punishment, communication, program evaluation, development, child
guidance and discipline, and leadership.
Drew
is a fourth generation and lifelong resident of Washington State.
She grew up in Tacoma and enjoyed summers on Vashon Island. She
has spent her adult years in Bellingham and Olympia focusing
on adult education and family development issues. She is married,
the mother of two and enjoys quilting and swimming in her spare
time. She has just returned to Whatcom County after an 18 year
absence.
Drew
has been working in the parent education/family support field
since 1983. She earned her Masters Degree in Psychology and her
B.A. in Child Development/Psychology from Western Washington
University.
