Drew Lenore Betz is an Extension Educator and Director for Washington State University Whatcom County Extension. She works with parents, parent educators, and family support professionals. Her primary program efforts are programs for families with elementary school aged and adolescent youth: Strengthening Families Program for Parents and Youth 10-14 Years in English and Spanish and programs that support healthy eating in personal, familial and community contexts.
Drew has served as a WSU trainer and state specialist for the Strengthening Families Program since she introduced the program to the state in 1999. She has overseen the program in Whatcom County since 2002 and is proud to have worked with so many dedicated facilitators and committed families.
Drew has been working on statewide WSU Extension efforts to promote family meals and is currently serving as co-leader of a team to bring family mealtime education to 4-H clubs and to develop supper clubs on campus for new students through the healthy campus program. She is also working on a multi-state research project aimed at helping parents of preschoolers develop greater awareness of their children’s feeding cues to help prevent obesity.
Drew assumed the administrative leadership role for WSU Whatcom County Extension in September 2010. She feels privileged to work with a talented staff of extension professionals.
Drew is a fourth generation and lifelong resident of Washington State. She grew up in Tacoma and enjoyed summers on Vashon Island. She has spent her adult years in Bellingham and Olympia focusing on adult education and family development issues. Drew has been working in the parent education/family support field since 1983. She earned her Masters Degree in Psychology and her B.A. in Child Development/Psychology from Western Washington University.
